Sunflower Camp for Ukrainian Children

Anna Report-Warsaw, Poland

Today we met a new group of children.

The integration day was wonderful.

The children got to know each other and their teachers.

We greeted them warmly and gave them a short briefing, promising them an exciting program.

We took the children on an excursion to the Korolivski Lazienky park, which was led by a Ukrainian woman.

She was a wonderful guide. The children learned a lot of interesting things about the king of that time, his castles in the beautiful park, and his life customs and character.

After a tasty lunch and a short rest, the children started creating again. The older group came up with a story for an animated movie and were fascinated by the process. Children of the middle and senior groups were drawing with sand. This is a calming therapy that develops skills and the brain. It is beautiful, useful and has a wow effect

This is Tamara. She is a pensioner and she is disabled. She gathered money for a new windows for a very long time, because it’s so expensive for her. She was able to change only one window and because of russians attack that new window and all of her other windows were destroyed. She said that if not you, I won’t be able to fix my windows. Thank you so much for your help and support.

We need funding to help keep this project going. As little as $15 can replace a window.

The need is big, but small donations will make a difference!

This is Oknasa. She lives with her husband and 2 children. Their windows were destroyed because of a shell. The glass pieces were all over the flat. Praise God they weren’t at home that night. We changed their wooden cover with windows insulation. Oksana said that much better.

Report from Anna

Today was the last day of the first session, and the completion of all the projects. We did a dress rehearsal for the dances, edited the sound for the movies, and the kids finished up the T-shirts.

We also had a guest, a journalist Svetlana, who interviewed the children. The children watched their own films with great emotions and pride.

At the end of the day the children gathered together and showed what they had accomplished.  They received diplomas and we had a celebration!  The most tender moment was when the youngest group of children sang the Ukrainian anthem (hymn).  We had a super day. We are like family!

The children did not want go home. All groups asked about continuing the sessions.
